The problem of deduction ; #1 Dream of Descartes

<Rene Descartes, a french philosopher.>   Waken up, but don’t know whether it’s dream or not. Because it was so realistic. In 「 Inception 」 , a famous movie in Hollywood, Dicaprio spins a top to distinguish dreams from reality. If it stops, then he’s in reality. But if it keeps spinning, then he’s in dream. We experienced similar symptoms. A dream more realistic than reality. We don’t know whether it is dream, until we’re awake. Everyone dreams like this, but someone derived philosophical arguments from it. It was Rene Descartes.     Descartes was an ambitious philosopher. He decided to find a truth without religion, tradition, and convention. What could be a definite truth in the world? First of all, let's see the empirical things. 'Crows are black.' But what if I didn’t see the exact color because of my color blindness? And white crows can be found someday, then it turns out to be a false. Secondly, the deductive proposition. for example, ‘...

Back to the Highschool(15.07.11)

Last spring semester, I studied the Philosophy of Science with Prof. Lee (Chunghyung Lee). In the class, the most interesting subject was the Interpretation of Quantum-mechanics because it was the only subject I could not understand. So, I challenged to take a presentation and write a final report about it despite the lack of my mathematical and scientifical knowledge. (The lack of mathematical and scientifical knowledge is from my choice in highschool curriculum. Korean high school education offers two different curriculum tracks: liberal arts and natural sciences. I choose the liberal arts track and that's why I have to study basic science and mathematics more.) He praised my presentation but the feedback on my report he gave was as follows.

'I highly praise your attempt to deal with this topic. Yet the description you give of the Copenhagen interpretation are incorrect and inapt...'

I totally agreed with his feedback. Honestly, it was too hard to write a great report without basic knowledges on the Quantum mechanics within a two months. It is not a complaint about time limit. I should have studied more about a basic science and mathematics.

So, in this summer vacation, I decided to study a basic science and mathematics by myself. I didn't understand the Black Body Radiation and Vector Operator and Eigen Function very well when I wrote the final report.

I am recently studying the Linear Algebra and Vector Analysis and Geometry and Differentiation and Integral Calculus which were not included in my highschool curriculum. After highschool, I've never been solved the mathematic problems as much as these days. After all these studies, I would re-write the report nicely and send it to Prof. Lee.
